The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation.

Work Description: Work as backstage volunteers during performances. This backstage help entails pairing up with children who are in the performances and helping them get into costume, make-up, and interacting backstage until the performers go on stage. The volunteers take them to and from the stage area for their performance. Volunteers also sit with their group until the finale of the show. Lastly during this portion of the volunteering, they help children get dressed and off to their parents/guardians/ or rides. Other volunteers help with sets and props backstage during the show, distribute programs, and help with striking after the show.

Mission: To provide quality hospice care to patients with life limiting illness and to their caregivers and families. The goal of hospice is to add quality of life when quantity is limited. Trinity Hospice recognizes dying as part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life.
Work Description: Work with nursing home residents, helping with making crafts, calling bingo, etc. No clerical work available.

Work description: A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available. Long-term (semester) opportunities such as tutoring abused and neglected children require orientation and a commitment to meet weekly with the kids. Many short-term, hands-on opportunities are available, including work at drop-in center, Clerical work also available. Students are encouraged to volunteer in small groups for more fun and more effective service.

Mission: The Young Leaders' Academy of Baton Rouge, Inc. is a private educational non-profit organization that partners with 29 public inner city schools. YLA exists to nurture the development of leadership abilities of young African-American males (third-, fourth- and fifth-graders), empowering them to improve the quality of their lives and assist them in becoming productive citizens.
Work Description: To be counselors, mentors, tutors, role models for the boys. Help with academics and community service projects.
Work Hours: School year: Saturdays 8.a.m . to 11 a.m.. Summers there is a six-week camp the hours for which are Monday through Thursday 7:45 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.
