Eleven students from Episcopal High School have been recognized
by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Seven students were tapped as semifinalists in the annual National
Merit competition based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT.
They are: Nichole Anderson, daughter of John and Cheryl Anderson,
Chelsea Gidden, daughter of Dr. Howard and Melanie Gidden, Samantha
Irantalab, daughter of M.J. and Catherine J. Irantalab, Erin Kirchoff,
daughter of Robert and Cheryl Kirchoff, Gabe Leupin, son of Dr.
Alexandre and Kate Leupin, Sarah Seger, daughter of Jon and Kathy
Seger, and Neal Voss, son of David and Meriget Voss. Gidden no
longer attends Episcopal but was a student when she qualified for
the honor.
The following four students were recognized as Commended Scholars
for their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT: Sam Green, son of Stuart
and Jennifer Moses Green, Madeleine Patrick, daughter of William
and Melanie Patrick, Miriam Ruzicka, daughter of Edmund Ruzicka
and Dr. Louise Stowell, and Sabrina Wood, daughter of Tina Wood.
The National Merit Semifinalists join approximately 15,500 academically
talented high school seniors in qualifying for this honor. As semifinalists,
the students will have the opportunity to compete for about 7,600
merit scholarships worth approximately $28 million. Before they
can be considered for merit scholarship awards, semifinalists must
advance to the finalist level of competition by fulfilling additional
requirements, which include having an outstanding academic record
and submitting SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier
PSAT/NMSQT performance.
