Episcopal’s journalism students earned awards in statewide
competition for their work on the school’s yearbook and newspaper.
The 2005-2006 student newspaper placed third in the Louisiana Scholastic Press
Association contest in the small schools category, which includes all high schools
with up to 1,000 students.
Additionally, newspaper staff members won the following individual awards in
competition against students from high schools of all sizes: Stephanie Bayne,
third place, In-Depth Writing, second place, Advanced Sports Writing, and third
place, Center Spread Design; John Bruner, second place, In-Depth Writing, first
place, Sports Profile Writing; Brigette Chapman, third place, Spot Sports Writing,
second place, Graphics; Helene Daage, second place, Editorial Page Design; Macon
Field, third place, Center Spread Design; Alex Koren, second place, Spot News
Writing, second place, Opinion Essay; and Emma Rollo, second place, Column Writing.
The team of J.K. Awotwi, Stephanie Bayne, John Bruner, Brigette Chapman, Helene
Daage, Andrew Donald-Davis, Macon Field, Alex Koren and Alli Noto won second
place in the Team In-Depth Writing category for their work on a special issue
of the newspaper on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
In yearbook competition, the 2005 Accolade won third place in the small schools
category. Evan Scott won second place in the Yearbook Feature Layout category,
and Shannon
Kaple won third place in the Yearbook Feature Writing category.
