Episcopal’s varsity teams finished the fall season with
state championships in volleyball, boys cross country and girls
cross country.
The volleyball team defeated St. Martin’s 3-1 in the state
championship match on Nov. 12. This is Episcopal’s sixth
state championship in volleyball and first since 2002. The Knights
are coached by Beverly Hise Russell, ’76, and assistants
Renee Schwing Price, ’76, and Courtney McCullough, ’97.
The boys cross country team, coached by Claney Duplechin, won
its 10th straight state championship and 18th in the last 20 years.
Senior Sean Swanner won the individual state championship.
The girls cross country team, coached by Butch Helveston, won
its second straight state championship, defeating the second-place
team by 48 points.
