Twenty-eight members of Episcopal’s class of 2005 and 18 students in
the class of 2006 have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in
recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced
Placement Examinations, including two National Scholars.
Sara Paccamonti and Bret Wilson, both class of 2005, earned the National
AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5-point
scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more
of those exams.
Eleven students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning
an average grade of 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five
or more of those exams. Those students are Paccamonti, Wilson, Vanessa Begat,
Jessica Ferreyra, Christopher Hobbs, Luke Machen, Kristi O’Brien, Andre Prudhomme,
Elizabeth Stewart and Alex Whelan, class of 2005, and Stanley Chen, class of 2006.
Sixteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning
an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3
or higher on four or more of those exams. Those students are Ellyse Attinger,
Lauren Breeland, Kendall Childers, Jennifer Lum, Ryan Lyle, Ashley Mick,
Kelly Murtagh, Coleman Nalley, Karen Pace and Michael White, class of 2005,
and Clarke Armatis, Kenneth Leu, Trey Miller, Jane Slatton, Sean Swanner and
Liz Young, class of 2006. Armatis earned the honor based on AP exams he took
at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.
Nineteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three
or more AP Exams, with grades of 3 or higher. They are Rachel Aguiar,
Haley Hofmann, Sean Moles, Brett Paddock, Evan Scott, Lauren Stanat,
Jill Whitley and Kristen Williams, class of 2005, and Bryce Beard,
Ben Bologna, Michael Gieger, Meg Goodner, John-Paul Grenier, Sarah Margaret Hardie,
Alex Koren, Alex Rossi, U.J. Santiesteban, Danielle Shockey and Sydney Turner,
class of 2006. Bologna and Geiger earned the honor based on AP exams they took
at St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie, while Koren earned the honor based
on AP exams he took at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.
AP Examinations, which students take in May after completing challenging
college-level courses at their high school, are graded on a 5-point scale
(5 is the highest). Most of the nation’s colleges and universities award
credit, advanced placement, or both for grades of 3 or higher.
