Latin Club

ROMA
Latin Club for 6th and 7th Graders

The name stands for Romans of the Modern Age. This club introduces Latin students to Roman banqueting and partying techniques!  Students participate in a number of activities throughout the year. 7th graders serve as mentors and planners for the 6th grade students.


Calendar of Events, 2008-09

September, 2008

Entertainment Banquet - Get to know the club members as you banquet and enjoy some entertainment.

October, 2008

Hades' Haunted House - Travel through a haunted house based on the ancient Roman Underworld.

November, 2008

Harry Potter Day - Compete with your house to find the meaning of Latin words in the Harry Potter books, and then see the movie with your class.

December, 2008

Saturnalia Banquet - Feast on authentic Roman food, exchange traditional wax gifts, and choose your seal symbol for the initiation.

January, 2009

Circus of Janus - Celebrate with a day of Roman games.

February, 2009

Initiation Banquet - Become an official member of ROMA by receiving your seal and signing the parchment.

April, 2009

Roman Movie Time - Enjoy some pizza while watching a Roman movie with club members.

National Latin Week - Create and participate in a morning meeting program about Latin.

May, 2009

Graduation - ROMA 7th graders graduate into EHS JCL.


Junior Classical League
Latin Club for 8th Graders

This club functions in conjunction with the upper school Latin club.  Events include participating in the state JCL’s Fall Forum mini-convention in November, making of Latin Christmas cards for EHS’s teachers in December, and attending the state JCL Convention in March where delegates participate in various competitions dealing with Latin and the ancient Roman world.
