7th Grade Religion
Life of Christ
Course Description

A study of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, this eight-week required course explores the “Jesus of history,” that is, how he was experienced in first century Palestine --his teachings, parables, and miracles as well as his suffering, crucifixion and resurrection. This aspect of the course will examine the unique characteristics of each of the four Gospels as well as the history, culture, politics, customs and religion of the world that Jesus lived in. In addition, the course will examine Jesus as “the Christ of faith,” that is, how and why Christians recognize him as the Son of God, the divine Savior who transcended history when God raised him from the dead. The course will end with a week of exploring our worship, both corporate and personal.

Supplies Needed:
• Three-ring binder
• Four dividers, one for each unit
• Loose leaf paper
• Journal (may be provided)

How will I be graded in this religion class?
Because of the nature of this class, and the goals that I have set for you, grading
will be highly subjective. This does NOT mean that there will be no objective grading, but your class participation, your eagerness to learn, and your attitude toward this class will be primary. My goal for each of you is to learn about the historic Jesus, in His time and place in history. But beyond that, my greater goal is for each of you to see your unique place as a child of God, to know God more personally, and hopefully, to begin a journey with Him that will last a lifetime. These goals do not lend themselves always to objectivity, although we will have 3 Unit tests, several activities and projects.

Grading breakdown will be as follows:
• Unit tests- 300points(100 points each)
• 4 main Projects- 400 points (100 points each)
• Class participation, attitude- 400 points

Will I have homework?
Homework will be assigned if I feel that it is necessary, if work cannot be
completed during classtime. If everyone cooperates, we should be able to
complete most projects during our time. Homework will then depend on your
cooperation.

How can I check on daily activities in this class?

Class assignments/announcements will be posted on the “Assignments” page of
the 7th grade Religion web page on the EHS site.

What if I’m not a Christian?
· The course is designed for all students, regardless of faith tradition, denomination or belief system. A knowledge of Jesus of Nazareth can enrich the lives of all people, whether or not they are Christians.
